HASSAN: The district administration, Home Guards, Fire Services and Emergency Services Department observed National Disaster Reduction Day in Hassan on Monday.
Demonstration
Demonstrations were conducted on how to rescue a person trapped in house on fire or a building in the case of a bomb blast. It also educated people on how to protect public and private property. Deputy Inspector General Home Guards N. Shiva Prasad who was the chief guest said the State and Central Governments had launched several schemes to protect public life and property but they could become successful only if people participated in them actively. He advised students to undergo these training programmes so that they could protect people in the time of crisis. Earlier, Hassan MLA H.S. Prakash, who inaugurated the programme by lighting a lamp, urged the organisers to train students on preventing road accidents. Police should educate students on traffic rules, he added. Deputy Commissioner K.H. Ashwathanarayana Gouda distributed prizes to students who won the essay competition. District Superintendent of Police Panduranga Rane, Zilla Panchayat CEO F.R. Jamadar were the chief guests.
