Staff Reporter

NALGONDA: The Education Department and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan jointly organised a run against child labour to mark Children's Day in the town on Tuesday.

The run, christened `CLEAR (Child Labour Elimination Awareness Run),' was flagged off by Collector K. Vijayanand at the Nehru statue at Clock Tower Centre. More than 700 children from 20 schools participated. DEO B. Hemanath, APC of SSA J. Prakash, CMO Sudarshan Reddy and other officials also participated.

Addressing the gathering, the Collector appealed to the people not to engage child labour at home.

Mr. Prakash said the administration was ready to rehabilitate child labourers. "If you come across such children, please inform us. Let's make a united effort to eliminate child labour," he said.

Weapons displayed

The district police celebrated Children's Day by convening a meeting on the premises of II Town police station. Apart from organising an elocution competition for children, the police displayed their weapons and other equipment.

Child-friendly

KARIMNAGAR: Superintendent of Police D.S. Chauhan inaugurated a child-friendly police station on NTPC police station premises in Godavarikhani on Tuesday.

The special police station is aimed at removing the fear of police from the minds of children and educating them about how the police functioned. It is a separate block from the regular police station and will be manned by a constable or home guard.
