Ramadoss writes to Manmohan

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss on Tuesday urged the Prime Minister to depute the External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee to Sri Lanka in the wake of the recent conflict in the Island-nation.

In a letter, Dr. Ramadoss said Mr. Mukherjee should be sent, instead of Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon. The Prime Minsiter, during the trip of the Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa to India later this month, should seek an assurance from the latter that the A-9 highway connecting the Jaffna peninsula with mainland would be re-opened. He urged Mayors of six municipal corporations from Tamil Nadu to boycott the inaugural session of the Asian Mayors' conference in Dehradun.
