Children advised not to discontinue their studies

MANGALORE: The Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation Bank B. Sambamurthy on Tuesday advised children not to discontinue their studies.

Addressing students on the occasion of Children's Day at Pandeshwar, he said children should get educated and could try to develop Jawaharlal Nehru's way of thinking.

S. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of Dakshina Kannada unit of Bharath Seva Dal, said the Seva Dal had contributed to help children develop patriotism. It had also taught them discipline, he said. Students should carry forward the principles of Seva Dal to the next generation, Mr. Kalkura added.

The guests paid floral tributes to the statue of Nehru in front of the head office of Corporation Bank. Students sung patriotic songs on the occasion.

At another function organised by the district unit of Bharat Scouts and Guides, "bulbuls", "cubs'' and "scouts'' and "guides'' were given away State and Central awards and certificates.

In all, 136 "bulbuls'', 113 "cubs'', 103 "scouts'' and 190 "guides'' were given away the State awards and 36 "guides'' and 19 "scouts'' were given away the Central awards and certificates.

Mamatha Gatti, president of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat was, present.
