One held on cheating charge

CHENNAI
: The police arrested a man here on Tuesday on charges of cheating and forgery, who, along with nine others, posed as an employee of a private software firm and obtained loans of Rs 55 lakh from a nationalised bank.
The police said that based on a complaint from Nungambakkam branch of the bank that 10 persons obtained loan in 2004, but defaulted, a case was registered.
The borrowers furnished salary certificates and based on the documents, the bank disbursed loans. However, police inquiries revealed no such software company and found the address bogus.
The police arrested Sekar (45) of Ayyanavaram who had claimed to be working as a driver in the software firm.
