CHENNAI: The birth centenary of C.R. Pattabhi Raman, an eminent advocate and politician, was celebrated on Saturday with the Postal Department releasing a special postal cover on the C. P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation premises, Alwarpet. Pattabhi Raman, son of Sir C. P. Ramaswami Aiyar, was a senior advocate of the Supreme Court and held posts such as honorary secretary of the Bar Association of India, New Delhi, and President of the Madras Bar Association. Releasing the special cover, Karuna Pillai, Post Master General (Mail and Marketing), Chennai, said he was a personality whom youngsters couldemulate for his values and visions. A.L. Somaiyaji, former additional advocate general, Tamil Nadu, who received the first copy of the special cover, said Pattabhi Raman was always easily accessible despite being involved in active politics. He held posts such as Member of Parliament representing Kumbakonam and Minister for Law and Company Affairs. C.K. Raman, honorary secretary of SSKV Schools, Kancheepuram, highlighted the philanthropy and educational interests of Pattabhi Raman. C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation president Sarojini Varadappan recalled his service to provide happiness to others. She said that Pattabhi Raman encouraged youngsters to develop leadership qualities. Family members recalled his love for cricket, animals and nature.
