I was misquoted, says Mayawati

LUCKNOW: Under attack from clerics and the ruling Samajwadi Party for her reported remarks that some Muslims are encouraging fundamentalists, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has directed party workers to launch a damage control exercise.

Ms. Mayawati asked party leaders to meet the Muslim clergy and explain that she had been misquoted and that she had never termed Muslims as fundamentalists, BSP sources said here on Tuesday. — PTI
