HYDERABAD: The State Government has in a recent order transferred the task of presenting the prestigious NTR Memorial National Film Award and the Pratibha Rajiv Awards from the Information and Public Relations Department to the Andhra Pradesh State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation with immediate effect. A corporation press release said the NTR Award had been instituted in 1996 and continued until 2002. It comes with a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs and the awardees from 1996 include thespian Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Dilip Kumar, Sivaji Ganesan, Lata Mangeshkar, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Bhanumathi and Rajkumar. The Pratibha Rajiv Awards were instituted in 2005 with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. They are given to six persons for their contribution in the fields of literature, music, education, social service, theatre and folk arts. From 1996 to 2002, the NTR Awards were given away by the I and PR Department and has not been given since 2003. The TDP has been consistently demanding presentation of the NTR award and charged the Government with a negligent attitude.
