VIJAYAWADA: Responding to the CPI (M) dharna in front of the VMC office, city Congress president Pyla Sominaidu convened a meeting with Mayor Mallika Begum, Deputy Mayor Ch. Krishna Kumar, floor leader K. Rajasekhar and other party corporators, where it was opined that the CPI (M) was "misleading" people by collecting applications for allotment of houses. The meeting, held on Monday, came to the view that the allotment of houses should be handled by officials, and not by any political party, as it would only give an opportunity for middlemen to make money. The delegation later met Commissioner Natarajan Gulzar, who reportedly assured them that he would clarify the position about allotment of houses to people through a statement to the media.
Plea to Gulzar
The Congress leaders also asked Mr. Gulzar to arrange at least two more places for parking of lorries and trucks in the city, on the lines of what was provided at Bhavanipuram. This would put an end to the problem of haphazard parking of heavy vehicles, they said. The delegation also impressed upon the Commissioner the need to remove barricades arranged in One Town to prevent heavy vehicles from entering into the narrow lanes and bylanes. Mr. Gulzar assured them that he would discuss the issue with the city police.
