VIJAYAWADA : Removal of debris from the ghat road on Indrakeeladri was in progress on Tuesday, the third day after the landslide. It would take at least three more days to reopen the road for vehicular traffic. An executive engineer from Hyderabad has been supervising the works. There was an increase in the pilgrim rush on the staircase from Sivalayam, the only way to reach the temple till the completion of repairs to the ghat road. Brahmin Street, the point where the staircase commences, became congested with auto-rickshaw drivers making a beeline there. However, there was a drop in the number of pilgrims visiting the temple in the last two days due to lack of transportation. Executive officer of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam E. Gopalakrishna Reddy said efforts were on to reopen the ghat road for vehicular traffic on Friday. The devasthanam would take up measures to address the problem of landslide very soon, he said.
