Good news for diabetics

COINCIDING WITH World Diabetes Day, there was some good news for diabetics who like to sweeten their food and beverages without increasing their blood sugar levels. A plant called Stevia, demonstrated at the Press Club, could be an alternative to synthetic or chemical-based sweeteners. The powdered leaf of the plant is claimed to be not just a sweetener but also one which induces the pancreas to secrete more natural insulin. One can even grow the plants in a home garden.
