French tourists arrive in Kochi

NEDUMBASSERY: Marking the onset of yet another tourist season, a chartered flight carrying a group of 294 tourists from France arrived here at the Cochin International Airport on Tuesday evening.

Though a chartered flight carrying a U.K. group reached Kochi last Saturday, the number of tourists was only 83.

The wide bodied Airbus A340 flight, THT 630, carrying the French tourists touched down at Kochi airport at 4.40 p.m., an hour before the scheduled arrival time. The flight operated by Air Tahiti Nui, which arrived here from Jordan, has 16 crew-members besides the tourists.

The Paris-based TMR Group has organised the world wide tour while the programmes in India are being handled by Discover India Private Limited, a Delhi-based tour operator through its agent Marvel Tours, Kochi. Girls clad in traditional Kerala attire greeted the tourists at the airport by presenting them with garlands. However, the travellers were most enthralled by the traditional `panchavadyam' music and many of them were seen capturing it in their movie camera.

Balachandran, Deputy Director, Department of Kerala Tourism, and K.E. Abdul Basheer, Tourism Information Officer, were present at the airport to receive the guests.

The tourists have been put up at hotel Le Meridien. They will visit Alappuzha on Wednesday morning where they will check in to houseboats for traversing through the backwaters. On their return to Kochi they will set out for sightseeing in the evening. They will depart from here on Thursday morning for Myanmar, sources informed.
