5,000 take part in children's rally

Children's Day celebrated with great fanfare in the city

KOCHI : A colourful rally, attended by over 5,000 children, marked the Children's Day celebrations in the city on Tuesday.

Organised by the District Child Welfare Samithy, the rally was flagged off by District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish at Rajendra maidan.

Dressed in school uniforms and colourful attire, the children won the hearts of many who lined up on either side of the road to watch the event. The rally took the route via D.H. Road, Jose junction, M.G. Road, KPCC junction and Hospital Road before reaching Children's Park. Students from various schools in Ernakulam district participated in the rally.

Scouts, guides and Red Cross volunteers added glitter to the procession. Balloons, paper flowers and cultural costumes provided an extra colour to the rally. Beating sticks and other items increased the tempo of the procession that passed through each point in style.

Indu K.R. of Government U.P. School for Girls, who was selected as the Children's Prime Minister, led the rally in an open jeep. She also presided over the public meeting that was held after the conclusion of the rally at Children's Park. District Collector inaugurated the meeting. Prizes were distributed to students, who bagged top honours in different competitions organised by the District Council for Child Welfare.
