BMP holds meeting on Greater Bangalore

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) will undertake a survey of property in the eight urban local bodies and the 111 villages that are to come under the Greater Bangalore limits.

This was to identify the number of parks, playgrounds and availability of civic amenities so that when the merger takes place, the gap in the infrastructure and basic services could be filled, sources at the BMP said on Tuesday.

Major developments work would be taken up after the merger. Then the staff at the City Municipal Councils or the administrative offices of the villages would not be sufficient, sources said.

In a brainstorming session, the BMP looked at the options available such as recruiting more officers or bringing them into the Corporation through deputation or outsourcing of work.

It may be recalled that report had said that an additional 1200 staff members would be required in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

The taxation system in the areas to come under BBMP would also be reviewed.
