NEW DELHI: It was literally Children's Day at Rastrapati Bhavan here on Tuesday. With President A.P.J Abdul Kalam meeting 450 children from various schools of the Capital, it was a chance for them to interact with their hero. And giving them food for thought, Dr. Kalam impressed upon them the need to acquire knowledge to progress in their careers. He told them that they should contribute to the development of the nation by using their spare time to teach people in the rural areas to read and write. Apart from asking children to have a social conscience, he also encouraged them to become environment-friendly and plant saplings. Earlier in the day, Dr. Kalam met writers of children's literature at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President told the writers that the hopes and aspirations of the children should be reflected in their literature.
