Special Correspondent

The facility can house 1,000 people

CHENNAI: Merrill Corporation of the U.S., engaged in providing solutions for business communications and information management needs, has set up a fully-owned Indian subsidiary christened Merrill Technology Services India Private Ltd. (MTSI).

The Indian venture has been promoted through Merrill Ventures Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the group, headquartered at St. Paul, Minnesota. The 27,000-sq. ft. India facility has come up at the Olympia Technology Park here. The centre currently houses 300 people. It can accommodate 1,000 people. According to Bhamathi Prakash, Country Head, the Chennai centre would get a part of its business from its American parent. She told The Hindu, that Merrill had already a `vending relationship' in India.

The move for a wholly owned subsidiary was in line with the parent's decision to consolidate its businesses in India. The India centre, she said, would provide transactional and compliance services to corporates.
