Thiruvananthapuram: The police on Wednesday submitted the charge sheet in the sensational letter bomb case before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate here. Last month, the police arrested Rajiv alias Sharma of Kazhakuttom on the charge of making the letter bombs that were posted to different people in the district. Two of the bombs exploded on September 21, the day the President was in the State. The explosions caused much panic and raised concern about national security because of the seditious messages in the mail bombs. The police later found that the letter bombs were the handiwork of a "meek and mentally disturbed electronics handyman" who was experimenting with an innovative method to scare his perceived enemies. The mail bombs, six of them in all, were addressed to people with whom the accused had a grouse, according to the police. The mail bombs were non-lethal and designed to create a scare. However, the same circuitry and method could have been used for delivering lethal explosives to any target. Sharma, who was arrested on the charges of violating the Explosives and Indian Postal Act, is currently housed as a remand prisoner at the Attakulangara Sub Jail here. A team led by Inspector-General of Police, South Zone, Arun Kumar Sinha, and City Police Commissioner, Manoj Abraham, investigated the case.
