Special Correspondent
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee has strongly protested against the recent attacks by the pro-CPI(M) Students Federation of India in several parts of the State and the attempts of the student organisation to take the law into its own hands. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, KPCC spokesperson M.M. Hassan said the SFI was resorting to public trials and handing out justice. The CPI(M) ministers were also speaking in the same vein with little regard to decency. Mr. Hassan listed out the Pathanamthitta incident when a group of SFI activists forcibly secured the release of their leader from police custody. In another incident, the Principal of Attingal Government Polytechnic was attacked and injured. DYFI workers attacked the Congress office in Punalur and the pro-CPI AIYF workers in another incident. "The SFI and the DYFI appear to have been given a special status under the LDF rule," Mr. Hassan said. The Education Minister was interfering in the administration of the universities, Mr. Hassan said and alleged that the Education Minister had threatened Vice-Chancellors to fall in line with the Government. He took strong exception to the campaign against Sanskrit University Vice-Chancellor K.S. Radhakrishnan and the Cusat Vice-Chancellor.
Karunakaran's support
Mr. Hassan dared the LDF to reject the votes of K. Karunakaran's supporters in the Thiruvambadi by-election. He said the LDF's stand was opportunistic.
