NEW DELHI: The Centre on Wednesday announced the setting up of a national commission on sub-categorisation of Scheduled Castes in Andhra Pradesh. Constituted following the Supreme Court striking down the Andhra Pradesh Scheduled Castes Act, 2000 pertaining to sub-categorisation of SCs in the State, the commission will be headed by a retired Supreme Court judge. The term of the commission will be one year from the date of taking over of the charge by the chairperson. The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution on December 10, 2004, to recommend to the Centre to take up the matter in Parliament.
