Indian challenge ends

New Delhi: Manan Chandra bowed out of the IBSF World snooker championships at Amman, Jordan, after a narrow 8-7 loss to Daniel Ward of England in a keenly fought men's semifinal.

Chandra lost to Ward 0-66, 60-5, 41-67, 64-15, 16-59, 71-27, 8-62, 75-43, 60-54, 64-41, 12-67, 36-60, 47-56, 74-34, 44-67 on Tuesday.

In the women's section, Anuja Thakur finished third after blanking Ramona Belmont of New Zealand 3-0 in a play-off. The Mumbai cueist notched up a 51-23, 64-61, 75-62 win over the Kiwi player, after being defeated by Wan-Ip In of Czech Republic 2-4 in the semifinals.

It was a similar story for Devendra Joshi in the Masters (above-40) as he beat Joe Delaney of Ireland 4-0 after being blanked by Mohammad Yousuf of Pakistan in a last-four match. Joshi lost 34-58, 0-75, 46-55, 37-51 to Yousuf. — PTI
