Sensex breaches 13500-mark

MUMBAI: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex on Wednesday breached a new high of 13500 for the first time before closing at 13469.37 amid a strong rally in bank stocks and selective purchases by foreign funds.

The BSE 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) surged to a trading peak of 13506.08 and closed at a new high of 13469.37, a net rise of 43.87 points over Tuesday's close of 13425.50.

The National Stock Exchange's S&P CNX Nifty improved further by 10.40 points to close at a new peak of 3876.30.

Buoyant global trend

Frontline stocks continued to attract buying interest from foreign institutional investors (FIIs), who have been driving the market to new heights on a daily basis in a five-day-long bull-run, brokers said. The Sensex has gained nearly 400 points in five sessions.

Sentiment was also aided by the buoyant global trend coupled with encouraging corporate news. — PTI
