GULBARGA: The Government and Aided Pre University College teachers and lecturers will go on a day's strike in the first week of December demanding among things an increase in Dearness Allowance, payment of ex gratia to principals and increasing evaluation fees paid to them. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, president of the Karnatak State Pre University College Employees Association S.V. Sankanur and treasurer Aashok Talkeri said the teachers would hold a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office on that day after boycotting the classes in all the district headquarters in the State. Prof. Sankanur said the association was left with no other alternative but to go on strike owing to the indifferent attitude of the Government, which they said had failed to respond to despite several representations. He said the main demands of the teachers included increase in Dearness Allowance from Rs. 200 to Rs. 300, extending the ex gratia of Rs. 200 to principals also and increasing the fees for evaluation paid to teachers from Rs. 8 to Rs. 12 per paper.
