LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Wednesday warned that if his Government was dismissed and President's rule imposed in the State the Samajwadi Party would not allow the Central Government to function. Addressing a press conference, he alleged that Governor T.V. Rajeswar had made such a recommendation at the behest of the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party, which, he said had only one agenda remove Mulayam Singh Yadav. However, within a couple of hours of the Chief Minister's press conference, Raj Bhavan sources clarified that the Governor had not sent any report recommending the dismissal of the Samajwadi Party Government. The Chief Minister ruled out the dissolution of the Assembly and indicated his readiness to contest the elections at the earliest. He said "the tide is in favour of the Samajwadi Party." That was the reason for the Opposition seeking his Government's dismissal, he charged. He accused the Opposition parties of ignoring the issues of the common man such as price rise, unemployment and power shortage. He defended his Government's decision to confer the Yash Bharti award on film star Abhishek Bachchan. "Junior Bachchan belongs to U.P. and was no mean actor," he said. No date has been announced for the award ceremony.
