RCF to appoint SC, ST stockists

Bangalore: The public sector Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Ltd. (RCF) has launched a drive to appoint stockists from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes as its dealers at the block level. From November 16 to 30, dealers from these communities will be appointed if they meet the eligibility criteria.

CPI (M) hits out at Shankaramurthy

BANGALORE: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has criticised the remarks of Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy that the Government itself would celebrate Datta Jayanthi at Bababudangiri.

In a statement here on Tuesday, S.Y. Gurushanth, State secretary of the party, said this amounted to violation of the court directions and Sufi traditions. Datta Jayanthi was the creation of Bajrang Dal, VHP and other wings of the Sangh Parivar during the 1990s. — Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) has decided to conduct its PGET on February 11, 2007. A detailed notification would be published soon, said a release from the Karnataka Private Medical and Dental Colleges Association.

Drop Ministers: DYFI

HASSAN: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) here on Wednesday demanded that Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy drop Higher Education Minister D.H. Shankaramurthy and Minister for Fisheries and Muzrai B. Nagaraj Shetty, who are in charge of Chikmagalur and Dakshina Kannada districts respectively, for allegedly fuelling tension on the Bababudangiri issue.

Addressing presspersons, DYFI State unit president Sunil Kumar Bajal and its district unit president Shavel Hameed said that a jatha had been planned on November 23. — Staff Correspondent

Decision hailed

MANGALORE: The Federation of University and College Teachers' Associations in Karnataka has said that the State Government's decision to recruit over 3,000 teachers in government-aided private colleges will strengthen the grant-in-aid system.

A.M. Narahari, president, and B.S. Makal, secretary, of the federation in a release described the decision as historic and bold.

They said that the grant-in-aid system in the State was in crisis in the light of frequent grant cut orders of previous governments.
