KPSC defers interview for posts

Bangalore: The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) has put off the interviews for the 145 posts of Inspector of Motor Vehicles following a petition filed by some aggrieved candidates in the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal.

As a sequel to the report published in The Hindu relating to the alleged large-scale racket in recruitment, an emergency meeting of the KPSC was held here on Wednesday under its chairman H.N. Krishna.

It was decided to defer the interviews, which were scheduled to commence on November 16.

The KPSC received 2,945 applications for the 145 posts of Inspector of Motor Vehicles. A cartel comprising several Transport Department personnel is stated to have collected Rs. 25 lakh to Rs. 35 lakh from nearly 50 candidates with an assurance that they would be cleared in the interview and appointed.

Most of those who have reportedly paid the money were the kith and kin of the serving and retired personnel of the Transport Department.

Mr. Krishna said the KPSC was awaiting some concrete evidence before deciding on the next course of action relating to the recruitment racket.
