NEW DELHI: A group of visiting Russian school children -- part of a 10-member delegation from Moscow's Boarding School No.19 -- called on President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam here on Tuesday. The simplicity and erudition of Dr. Kalam left the Russian children highly impressed.
Memorable experience of Indian culture
Immensely inspired, excited and thrilled to carry back home the memorable experience they had in India, the Russian children shared their experience of the Indian culture, traditions, dresses, food, music and dance at a function organised by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture and Nehru Bal Samiti here on Wednesday. These children are here on a cultural exchange programme. As young cultural ambassadors from Russia, the eight children virtually contributed to the noble cause of consolidating the Indo-Russian relations. "India is the most beautiful country in Asia and Indian monuments are unique in the world," said a Russian child. The children were forthright in spelling out their deep appreciation for Bollywood's leading stars Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan. They also revealed their love for the choicest flavour of "rasgulla" and "samosa" and special attraction for salwar-kameez. Teachers Magsi Baloch Emilia and Sarokina Larisa as well as their students narrated their experiences during their stay in Delhi and visits to Agra and Jaipur. The delegation, which arrived on November 4, will leave for Moscow on November 21.
Hindi classes
According to Magsi Baloch Emilia, Boarding School No.19 is the only school in Moscow where Hindi is taught to Russian children by teachers who have had their training in India. Specialised teachers there also teach Indian music and dance.
Bollywood classics of
Raj Kapoor
Both the teachers cherished memories of Hindi classics and legendary Hindi film icons Raj Kapoor and Nargis and megastar Amitabh Bachchan. For Sorokina Daria, a student of Class VIII, it was her third visit to India. She presented Indian folk numbers along with a ballet.
