Dattatreya likely to head State BJP

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The State BJP will have a new president on Thursday. Although BJP national secretary Bandaru Dattatreya and State general secretary K. Laxman were in the race for the post, indications are that the former Union Minister is likely to be elected unanimously.

Former Union Minister and party's returning officer for the election Thirunavukkarsar on Wednesday extended the time for filing the nomination till 10 a.m. on Thursday, apparently to facilitate Mr. Dattatreya, who was in Karimnagar, to file his papers.

BJP central leaders, Bal Apte, Soudhan Singh and Prakash Javadekar, had met the State leaders on Tuesday and elicited their opinion for arriving at a consensus on the new president.
