BANGALORE: Ludhiana's Everest Public School towered over Don Bosco (Mumbai) to win its second successive match in the inaugural National Schools Basketball League at the Sree Kanteerava indoor stadium courts here on Wednesday. The Everest boys, all from the Baba Ludhiana Basketball Academy and coached by `master tactician' Dr. S. Subramaniam, won 78-56 after enjoying a 40-33 lead by half-time. The results: DPS (Mathura Road) 50 (Humayu Khan 15, Sunil Kumar 10) bt Don Bosco (Kolkata) 32 (Kevin Liao 13); Everest PS (Ludhiana) 78 (Dilwar Singh 34, Ranjan Sharma 14) bt Don Bosco (Mumbai) 56 (Titus Andrade 18, Kaustubh 14); Mallya Aditi (Bangalore) 66 (Nityn Bulchandani 20, Preetham 18, Mohd. Adeel Anees 18) bt Hyderabad PS 38; St. Emphrem (Kottayam) 81 (Nelson Johnson 23, M. Shaji 21) bt St. Paul's (Salem) 60 (K.G. Srinivasan 18, Ramachandran 15).
Bhaskar beats Savur
B. Bhaskar reigned supreme in the State senior ranking billiards championship, defeating veteran Arvind Savur 1255-618 in the final league round here on Wednesday. Bhaskar recorded three century breaks (192, 132, 124) en route to a facile victory. In the other matches, D. Raj Kumar eased past G. Kishore Kumar 1300-582 and Duncan Mackenzie humbled B. Srinivasamurthy 684-546. Bhaskar, Savur and Raj, who took the top three spots in the meet, will represent in the State in the senior Nationals, scheduled to be held later in Bangalore.
BEL posts win
BEL Sports Club scored twice in the second half to emerge a 3-1 winner over Naveen Hockey Club, after the teams were tied 1-1 at half-time, in the Kodava Cup State-level hockey tournament here on Wednesday. The scores: BEL SC 3 (Venkatesh, K.L. Jeevan 2) bt Naveen HC 1 (Dhanamurthy); ITI SC 3 (Ponnappa 2, Vinoba) bt ASC Boys 1 (Shrikanth).
Monisha triumphs
Monisha Vinayak toppled the top seed G.M. Nischitha 21-18, 23-21 to claim the women's singles title in the Narsamma memorial State-ranking badminton championship at the Malleswaram Association courts here on Wednesday . M.D. Anup Kiran entered both the men's singles and boys' under-19 singles finals. Other results (semifinals): Men: Mohit Kamath bt V. Amar 21-16, 21-18; M.D. Anup Kiran bt Ajit Wijetilak 16-21, 21-16, 21-15. Boys under-19: Anup Kiran bt K. Prateek 21-16,21-9; Darshan Vernekar bt B.S. Phalgun 13-21, 21-19, 21-9.
Tough for Taurian SC
Taurian Sports Club scored a hard fought 28-26, 25-23, 12-25, 14-25, 15-9 victory over BEL Sports Club in the State floodlit volleyball tournament, conducted by the MICO Sports Club, here. Other results: Sports Hostel bt MICO 25-14, 25-21, 25-19; ITI SC bt J.P. Nagar 25-18, 25-19, 25-22.
Mixed bag for Brigade
Brigade and HP had mixed fortunes in the Bangalore Sports Club's VII Corporate CrickEight tournament at the Infosys cricket ground here. Brigade lost to ABB by five wickets but scored a seven-wicket win over Deloittes while HP won against GEPC by five wickets but lost by seven runs to Ernst & Young. ABB won both its ties while Deloittes lost both its matches. The scores: GEPC 39 in 7.4 overs lost to HP 42 for two in 5.2 overs; Ernst & Young 49 bt HP 42 for seven; Brigade 51 for five lost to ABB 55 for two in seven overs; Deloittes 30 for six lost to ABB 31 for two in five overs; Deloittes 43 for two lost to Brigade 45 for no loss in six overs.
