KSP regains title

BANGALORE: Karnataka State Police regained the State `A' division volleyball league title, defeating ASC 19-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 18-16 in a tantalising final league match at the Sree Kanteerava outdoor stadium courts here on Wednesday.

KSP and CIL finished level with five points each but KSP on better ratio (1.01) topped the four-team super-league. CIL (0.98) finished second while ASC (1.03) and MEG (0.92) with one win and two defeats each (four points each), finished in that order.

CIL, with a host of guest players who did duty for the State in the junior and youth nationals, showed a lot of nerve against an experienced outfit like MEG with young Ravi Kumar firing away.

KSP women maintained an all-win record but had to dip into their reserves to quell the challenge of SAI.

The results: Men: Super-league: KSP bt ASC 19-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 18-16; CIL bt MEG 21-25, 25-14, 14-25, 25-21, 15-13.

Women: KSP bt SAI 25-27, 25-23, 24-26, 25-21, 15-10.

The final standings: Men: 1. KSP, 2. CIL, 3. ASC, 4. MEG.

Women: 1. KSP, 2. SAI, 3. Sports Hostel, Mysore. — Principal Correspondent
