Nellore district to get ten Assembly constituencies

Staff Reporter

Delimitation Commission proposals

  • Nellore city may be represented by two legislators
  • Rapur, Allur may vanish from the electoral map

NELLORE: As many as nine Assembly constituencies in the district are likely to remain unaffected while two segments -- Allur and Rapur -- might disappear from the electoral map if the Delimitation Commission's proposals are accepted in toto.

But many constituencies may not retain their current geographical shape with the commission proposing 10 Assembly segments for the district in which Nellore rural will be new constituency, which might be carved out in place of Rapur constituency.

This means, the city is likely to be represented by two MLAs with the commission proposing two constituencies -- Nellore city and Nellore rural.

    Kovur segment

Allur mandal is likely to come under Kovur Assembly segment along with Vidavalur, Kodavalur, Kovur and Indukurpeta mandals. Kavali constituency might comprise Bogole, Kondapuram, Kavali and Jaladanki mandals. In the case of Atmakur segment, Chejarla, Atmakur, A.S. Peta, Dagadarthi, Buchi and Sangam mandals might come under it. Podalkur, Thotapalli, Gudur, Muthukur, Venkatachalam and Manubolu are likely to be with the Sarvepalli constituency.

    SC seats

Gudur, the Scheduled Caste reserved seat, might comprise Chillakur, Kota, Vakadu, Chittamur and Gudur mandals. And the other reserved seat for SCs, Sullurpet, is likely to have Ozili, Naidupet, Pellakur, Sullurpet and Tada mandals. Venkatagiri constituency is likely to consist of Rapur, Saidapuram, Dakkili, Venkatagiri, Kaluvaya and Balayapalli mandals.
