Paloli joins issue with Chandy

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Local Administration Paloli Mohammed Kutty has joined issue with the Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy in the debate over who was responsible for the Health Insurance Scheme for the Poor becoming a non-starter.

Reacting to Mr. Chandy's charge that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government had sabotaged the scheme, Mr. Paloli said it was actually the previous United Democratic Front (UDF) Government led by Mr. Chandy which had taken lakhs of poor people in the State for a ride. "The UDF Government virtually cheated 15 lakh people who had paid premium for the insurance scheme."

Mr. Paloli said the UDF Government had neglected certain basic formalities while launching the scheme. It was conceived as a scheme with assistance under a specific Central scheme.
