    Srikakulam: Kick starting the election campaign christened `Sankharaavam' for the Bobbili Lok Sabha seat in Etcherla Assembly segment in Srikakulam district, Ministers - Dharmana Prasada Rao and Botcha Satyanarayana - have appealed to people to take into account the performance of the Government in the last two and half years before exercising their franchise.

    The Assembly segment forms part of the Bobbili Lok Sabha seat.

    Addressing public meetings at Ranasthlam and other places on Tuesday, Mr. Prasada Rao reeled out the welfare measures taken up by the Congress Government.

    Welfare measures

    Execution of irrigation projects, distribution of ration cards, sanction of pensions and implementation of housing scheme were some of the programmes mentioned by the Ministers.

    Botcha Jhansilakshmi, the party candidate for the seat, also spoke.

    Scathing attack

    The TDP also launched campaign in the segment. Senior leaders, who included Srikakulam MP Kinjarapu Yerrannaidu, Deputy Leader of the party in the Assembly Kimidi Kalavenkata Rao, Polit Bureau member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and Srikakulam district unit chief Tammineni Sitaram addressed public meetings.

    `Bungling'

    Mr. Yerrannaidu said that he was confident that people would teach the Congress a befitting lesson at the hustings as they were already disillusioned by the Government's `misrule'.

    Mr. Ramakrishnudu said that the Congress Government had bungled on the issue of Volkswagon, which had resulted not only in losing the project but also in brining disrepute to the State at the international level.

    Mr. Sitaram said that the countdown for the Rajasekhara Reddy Government had begun.
