Rajahmundry: A galaxy of VIPs like Minister for Roads and Buildings J. Ramamohana Rao, MP V. Aruna Kumar, MLA R. Suryaprakash Rao, Mayor M.S. Chakravarti, Commissioner C. Nagaraja Rao, Sub-Collector K. Sasidhar life pass through the road under a rail overbridge near the head post office and the MRO office in Rajahmundry. Vehicles getting involved in accidents is a common sight here.

Stagnation of drainage water has led to the surface of the road getting reduced to rubble many a time.

Lack of coordination among major departments like Roads and Buildings department, the Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation and the National Highway authorities has led to damage of almost all roads in the city. "There is no road left without pits or huge cracks. Not only metal roads but also cement roads have got to reduced to rubble," said senior citizen Sannidhanam Narasimha Sarma who has slipped from his vehicle on station road several times.

    Tenders called

The main roads near Devichowk, Azadchowk, Apsara Theatre, Korukonda road, Kambala tank, Jandapanza Road, Congress office road, Jampeta, Seethampeta, District Court road, Main Road and all other internal roads were damaged and no repairs have been undertaken in the last four months. "We have called for tenders to take up repairs at RoB near the railway station. Work will start in a week. We are going to lay micro concrete to avoid regular maintenance," said C.S.N. Murthy, in charge Executive Engineer of R&B. As far as regular maintenance is concerned, Superintendent Engineer P. Rajeswara Reddy said: "There is 27 km under my department in Rajahmundry. We have sent proposals to the government for improvement to the extent of 11 km."
