SP for introduction of sex education

Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD: Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha observed that in an effort to build a healthy society sex education should be introduced in school curriculum and students should be taught about the ills of alcohol consumption and drug abuse.

It would go a long way in arresting sexual offences and weaning away students from becoming slaves to alcoholism and drug use, he said, attending the valedictory of the Child and Teenagers' Week celebrations here on Tuesday.

He said treatment for heart diseases was a mirage in case of poor patients.

The week-long programmes that included awareness camps on HIV/AIDS and free medical and health camps for the benefit of school and social welfare hostel students were jointly conducted by the Indian Medical Association, the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, the Indian Red Cross Society and the Nehru Yuva Kendra from November 8 to 14.

Earlier in the day, girl students of Social Welfare Residential School, doctors and Red Cross members took out a rally from Kotagally to the IMA Hall on Hyderabad Road where a symposium was conducted on "Teenage Problems and Solutions." IMA president Lakshma Reddy and a noted doctor Jayani Nehru spoke.
