Staff Reporter

  • Renovation to be completed in six months
  • Modern toilet blocks in Motel Aaram units

Thiruvananthapuram: Hotel Chaithram, two-star deluxe property of the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC), at Thampanoor here will be renovated at a cost of Rs.1 crore.

The renovation, being undertaken to cater to the needs of guests and to corner more business, will begin next week and will be completed within six months, said a top official of the corporation.

Under the project, the reservation centre on the hotel premises, conference facilities, restaurant, rooms and bar will be totally revamped. The reservation centre will be made more customer-friendly as it has been found that many tourists arriving by long-distance buses and trains from various places at Thampanoor walk into the centre seeking assistance.

The hotel has 88 rooms, including 12 air-conditioned rooms and 8 suite rooms. As per the plan, two-third of the rooms will be converted into air-conditioned rooms. The ambience of the rooms will be changed to give a classy feel. All modern facilities will be provided.

The KTDC has also decided to improve the toilet facilities at Motel Aaram by constructing modern toilet blocks at an estimated cost of Rs.40 lakh.

The new toilet blocks are to come up Motel Aaram units at Kayamkulam, Alappuzha, Kottarakara, Erumayur and Kannur. The project, being implemented with the support of Kerala Tourism, will be completed within six months.

The KTDC has decided to lay an underground power line from Aranya Nivas at Thekkady to Lake Palace at a cost of Rs.60 lakh, said the official. A couple of incidents of wild elephants getting killed have forced the KTDC to go in for underground cable for a 2,700-metre stretch.

The corporation has also decided to construct a one-km road to KTDC's Bolgatty Palace in Kochi, the official added.
