NEW DELHI: Ram Jethmalani, counsel for Manu Sharma, prime accused in the Jessica Lal murder case, on Wednesday submitted in the Delhi High Court that socialite Bina Ramani's evidence that she chased a look alike of Manu Sharma after the model was shot was tutored to frame his client. Making his submission before a division bench, comprising Justices R.S. Sodhi and P.K. Bhasin, Mr. Jethmalani said Ms. Ramani had given evidence under pressure from the Delhi police, which wanted to save the real culprit and frame Manu Sharma. The statements of prosecution witnesses Jatinder Raj and Madan Kumar belied Ms. Ramani's statement that she had seen Jessica fall down after being shot and had chased Manu Sharma asking him to hand over the weapon he was carrying. The prosecution witnesses had said that Ms. Ramani was outside the bar at the time of the incident, and had rushed inside along with them after hearing the shots. The bench has been hearing an appeal against the acquittal of Manu Sharma and eight others in the case by a trial court in February this year.
