Learning values in nation building

NEW DELHI: It is an annual date with creativity for children attending the International Children's Assembly and Integration Camp organised by National Bal Bhavan here. Marking the beginning of its Golden Jubilee celebrations, the theme of the three-day camp is "Values in Nation Building''.

Coming together in vast numbers, children sat in the warm November sun to put on paper what they thought about India. From writing about values that would make India a great nation to using the power of flowers to make a point, it was a day for them to interact.

Children from foreign countries and State Bal Bhavans are also part of the camp.

Social activist honoured

NEW DELHI: The Rajiv Gandhi Manav Sewa Award was conferred on noted social activist G. Muniratnam at a special function here on Wednesday. Dr. Muniratnam, general secretary of Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS), Tirupati, has been working in the field of child development for a considerable time now.

RASS was established in 1981and has been working in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Karnataka covering more than 2,000 villages.

Dr. Muniratnam has also been awarded Balabandhu Award by the Andhra Government in 1995 in recognition for his work in the field of child development.

`Govt. has failed'

NEW DELHI: The Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Subhash Arya, has accused the Congress Government of failing miserably to provide better civic services and transparent administration to the Capital's citizens.

In a letter to Lieutenant Governor B.L. Joshi, Mr. Arya said the Congress has no right to remain in power in the MCD. He alleged that owning to irregularities and wrong policies of Congress, there was chaos in Delhi.

Man attacked

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old man was allegedly attacked with a weapon by two men who tried to grab his bag at Azadpur Mandi on Wednesday. The victim, Manish, who works as a commission agent in a shop in the Mandi, was admitted to Jaipur Golden Hospital and was said to be out of danger.

The police are trying to determine which weapon was used and whether pellets from a gun caused the wounds.
