dated November 17, 1956: Future of Imre Nagy

The Hungarian Premier, Mr. Janos Kadar, told a workers' delegation that the deposed Prime Minister Imre Nagy could not at present take over the Government because he had taken refuge in a foreign legation, Budapest Radio reported on November 15. This was the first official confirmation that Mr. Nagy, who was deposed by the Russians only a few days after becoming Prime Minister, had obtained asylum in a foreign legation in Budapest. Reports have identified the legation as that of Yugoslavia.
