Institute signs pact with Textiles Committee

M. Soundariya Preetha

COIMBATORE: The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Textile Management has signed an agreement with Textiles Committee for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) project on "trade related capacity building."

According to the Director of the institute, C. Anandan, the institute will take up research activities related to textiles, and organise seminars and workshops for the industry through this tie-up.

The Textiles Committee is the Tier I partner for the programme.

The institute will also benefit from the association it will get with the industry through these events.

Mr. Anandan added that the institute now conducted three regular courses - PG Diploma in Textile Management (two years), PG Diploma in Apparel Management (one year), Post Diploma in Home Textile Management (one year).

It had about 100 students in these courses now and during the last two years, all the students who took up these courses were placed through campus recruitment.

He said that some of the companies such as Madura Garments and Raymond offered project and placement opportunities and even firms with international presence selected students from the institute.

An advantage for the students by doing these courses was the focus on textiles. About 30 per cent of the curriculum was on textiles, he said.

"Now the industry is doing pretty well and they need more management candidates."

Apart from these regular courses, the institute organises two or three-day programmes too based on the requirement of individual industries.

Through the tie-up with the committee, it would organise more events for the industry.
