Coimbatore: It has been more than 30 hours since he started signing, but singer Deepak Gupta of Indore shows no signs of tiring. He hopes to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for solo marathon singing.

He started his effort at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. More than 300 songs later, Deepak is confident he will be able to sing non-stop for 101 hours, with permitted breaks.

Sitting cross-legged in a room in Gujarati Samaj on Mettupalayam road, he sings for a group of people that egg him on enthusiastically.

The current record holder is a German, who sang for 54 hours.

Deepak, a music arranger, chose Coimbatore as the venue for his effort because he was in town in connection with the charity concert of child singer Palak Muchhal, who is known for having funded the heart surgeries of more than 200 children all over the country.

His effort is being recorded and will be handed over to representatives of the Guinness Book of World Records.

Deepak is gung-ho about the task on hand. Earlier, he has tried singing non-stop for as long as 18 hours.

He hopes to sing for 125 hours before he puts the microphone away.

If successful, he will conclude his marathon concert on November 20.
