KAKINADA: Andhra fish farmers are progressive and equally enterprising. They are role model to farming community as a whole, acclaimed Tripurali Choudary, a fish farmer from Vaisali in Bihar. Similar is the opinion of Girish Dev Ozha, another farmer from Ramgharva village of East Champaran district and also other Bihari farmers. `The fish farmers of Andhra, especially of East and West Godavari districts and Krishna by their expertise and resourcefulness are next to none.
Rich experience
One has to learn the art of farming from them. It is indeed a rich experience to us in interacting with them on farm practices, he remarked without hiding his wholehearted appreciation. Nagendra Kumar Sahni, who is from fishermen community (Mallah) said he was amazed over the expertise of non-fishermen community in Andhra in fish farming in contrast with the situation in Bihar. These batch of forty fish farmers from Bihar who completed their 10-day training programme at the Central Institute of Fisheries Education and Research (CIFE) during their interaction with the newsmen, have expressed confidence that with the little exposure and knowledge gained here, they would be able to achieve remarkable progress in fish farming in the coming years. "We have a fisheries college in the agricultural university. Except the maps showing various species of fish it did not have single live fish to demonstrate."
