Rajahmundry: R. Suryaprakash Rao, MLA, has announced that sports complexes will be constructed in DMH School and Potula Veerabhadraiah Stadium at a cost of Rs. 5 lakhs. Inaugurating the East Godavari district Secondary School Athletics Zonal Meet 2006-07 here on Thursday, he said a majority of private or corporate schools have no playgrounds. Most of sportspersons were from rural areas and they were bringing laurels to the country, he said. Mayor M.S. Chakravarti, who presided over the meeting, said that zonal meets would bring the rural talent to the fore.
Stadium construction
The students, who would excel in the meet, would get an opportunity to participate in the central zone competitions. He said the RMC and the government were committed to constructing a stadium at Rajahmundry at the earliest. RMC Commissioner C. Nagaraja Rao underlined the need for more encouragement to sports in Rajahmundry. Mayor and MLA along with corporators -- Pantam Kondala Rao, Prasadula Harnath, Botla Surya Rao and others played Kabaddi to mark the inauguration of the sports meet.
