Ameet Dhakal
Maoist chief Prachanda
KATHMANDU: The signing of the Comprehensive Peace Treaty (CPT) between the Nepal Government and the Maoists has been deferred till November 21. In a joint statement on Thursday, the Government and Maoists said the signing ceremony had been postponed, as they "needed more time for homework." The two sides were engaged in frantic negotiations in the last two days to finalise the treaty. It was expected to be signed on Thursday. A Government source said that though most of the contentious issues were sorted out, the Maoists insisted that the treaty be signed after the interim constitution was finalised. As the negotiations protracted till afternoon, Maoist chairman Prachanda postponed his scheduled visit to New Delhi to take part in a leadership conference. He will fly to Delhi on Friday, according to a Maoist source.
