Hanumant Singh in critical condition

Special Correspondent

Mumbai : Hanumant Singh, popularly known as `Chotu' and capped 14 times by India, is under life support system — ventilator and renal dialysis — at the Breach Candy Hospital here.

One among the 11 Indians to have scored a century on debut (105 against England at the Feroz Shah Kotla in 1964), Hanumant Singh's failing health has caused considerable anxiety to his family members and the cricketing fraternity.

His son Sangram Singh said "He felt feverish and refused to eat food last Monday (Nov. 6) and I straightaway took him to the hospital. He's stricken by Hepatitis B and Dengue".

Four years ago, Hanumant's elder brother Suryaveer Singh, two sisters and a niece had died in a motor accident near Ahmedabad.
