Exciting season in the offing

Mumbai: An exciting season is in the offing when the Mumbai races start on Nov. 19. Dr. Cyrus S. Poonawalla, Chairman, RWITC, has promised fair and clean racing while unveiling the programme to the media. "The recent Pune season was an example as there were no big suspensions for any professionals or any positive findings in the samples of horses,'' he said.

Mr. Vivek Jain, Chairman, Marketing & Media Working Group, RWITC, said "the Club is attempting to make this season the biggest and best ever." He further said that "the total value of sponsorships for the Mumbai season at about Rs. 206 lakhs is up by 50% on last year's figure".

The McDowell Indian Derby Day will have three event co-sponsors for the first time in history. Diageo, in conjunction with the RWITC will be hosting the "Keep Walking Challenge" for the Mumbai racing season 2006-07 to reward the leading jockey and trainer for professional excellence. Three prizes will be given as under: The Leading Jockey/Trainer as of Dec. 24 will be awarded on Dec. 25. The Leading Jockey/Trainer as of Feb. 4, 2007 will be awarded on Feb. 11, 2007. The Champion Jockey/Trainer as on April 1, 2007 will be awarded on April 8, 2007.
