Expedite PMRY loans, banks told

PUDUKOTTAI: The bankers should take steps for achieving the target fixed under various schemes for sanctioning loans to the economically weaker sections and needy borrowers, the District Collector, S. J. Chiru has said.

Speaking at a bankers meeting held here on Thursday, he said against the target of 787, as many as 265 persons had been sanctioned loans under the Prime Minister Rozgar Yojana (PMRY).

He appealed to the bank officials to expedite sanctioning of loans under this scheme as the government attached priority to generate self-employment among unemployed youths.

On the revolving fund for SHGs, Mr. Chiru said a sum of Rs.21.17 crore had been disbursed to women members. While the DRDA released Rs.5.10 crore, the Mahalir Thittam sanctioned Rs.12.45 crore and to 2,846 groups. This apart, 792 SHGs had got revolving fund to the tune of Rs.3.62 crore under the tsunami assistance. The Tamil Nadu Adidravida Housing and Development Corporation has sanctioned Rs.19.13 lakh to be released as individual loans to 178 persons during the current financial year.

The TAHDCO would also sanction Rs.90.87 lakh as loans and revolving fund to SHGs, besides a subsidy of Rs. 38.77 lakh. As many as 11,934 farmers have got credit cards and loans to the tune of Rs.19.67 crore so far during the current financial year. Banks should pay more attention to sanctioning non-farm credit to encourage small scale entrepreneurs. Against the target of 1,530, only 156 persons had been sanctioned loans totalling Rs.22 lakh. The Assistant General Manager, RBI, S. Srinivasan, the Project Officer, DRDA, A. Natarajan, the District Manager, TAHDCO, K. Shenbagavalli, the General Manager, DIC, S. Ramachandran were among those who spoke.
