Telugu Desam enters the `fray' for NTR award

HYDERABAD:
The TDP has said that it will collect Re.1 from every party member and put it in a fund from which the Rs. 5-lakh cash prize that comes with the NTR Memorial National Award every year can be drawn.
At a press conference here on Thursday, general secretary Sobha Nagi Reddy and spokesperson Kodela Sivaprasada Rao said the TDP offer of sponsoring the award came in the wake of officials saying that there were no funds. "We have lakhs of members. They can contribute Re. 1 each,' Mrs. Sobha said, asking the Government to come out clearly whether it would continue the practice of giving the award in memory of a man who was acknowledged as the `torch-bearer' of Telugu pride.
