Don't divert drought relief funds: CPI(M)

Special Correspondent

KURNOOL: CPI(M) district secretary T. Shadrak has urged authorities not to divert drought relief funds to `Adarshagramam' works.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, he said 42 mandals had been proposed for drought relief works but they were actually launched only at a few places. Out of Rs.15 crores earmarked for Kurnool district, Rs. 8 crores had been diverted to `Adarshagramam' programme. At Sankarabanda village in Aspari mandal, authorities had failed to pay for desilting of Ramatheertham tank. The workers were forced to resort to dharna to get paid.

He said the authorities in Sanjamala, Uyyalawada, Dornipadu, Kolimigundla and Owk mandals had suspended work on the pretext of instructions from higher authorities. As the drought relief works failed to provide succour, the workers resumed migration in the past few days, he said.
