KADAPA: Eleven Jawahar Knowledge Centres are set up in the State to develop skilled manpower in order to suit industry needs, according to district Collector M.T. Krishna Babu.

Speaking after inaugurating a JKC set up with an outlay of Rs. 18 lakhs on Government Girls Degree College premises here on Thursday, the Collector said employment opportunities were abound in information technology along with technological and service sectors, but there had been scarcity of skilled manpower required by the industry.

JKCs were being set up to hone students' skills and generate employment in corporate bodies, he said. JKCs was initially opened in 33 engineering colleges and provided ample employment avenues to students.

In order to tap innate talents among the rural youth and help them compete with students of corporate colleges, the Government established JKCs in the Government colleges, Mr. Krishna Babu said.

Training

The Government Girls Degree College Students would be imparted skills in software, communication and technical skills besides proficiency in English in a three-month training programme, he said. Reputed corporate bodies such as Reliance and Satyam Computers offered jobs to JKC trainees, he said.

Around 15 more JKCs were sanctioned in addition to 11 existing ones in the State, Regional Deputy Director of Higher Education Vidyasagar said. College principal K. Malleswari said six of the 80 students trained in JKC in Government Arts College for Boys bagged plush jobs.

Two hundred students registered their names in the JKC.

Government Degree College principal Haseena Begum, JKC Centre coordinator B. Prakash Rao, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan assistant project coordinator P.V. Lakshmaiah, executive engineer Manohar Reddy and lecturers participated.
