Mark on beedi packs: Minister denies charge

HYDERABAD:
Union Minister of State for Health P. Lakshmi on Wednesday termed the allegations levelled by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao as "baseless" and charged him with "misleading" people that she had signed the GO on printing of warning on beedi packs which could lead to workers being deprived of their livelihood.
Supreme Court ruling
The Minister said in a statement that Mr. Rao should have known facts before speaking on the issue. She clarified that the legislation on the beedi workers was passed during the NDA regime and that the Government was implementing it following a directive by the Supreme Court.
